He licked my butt.
That was my first and last experience in a dog park (with other dogs) until we started this adventure in 2018.
Let me tell you about the day my life flashed before my eyes and I got licked. So I was a puppy of approximately 6 months when my mommy thought I might likes to try a dog park. She was new to this whole dog park thing too so I try not to hold a grudge with her too much fur this experience.
She saw the big doggies in the park but she thoughts that each owner was in charge of their puppers and when they saw a small little pupper like me they would keep their dogs away. Dis was not the case. She placed me on the ground and I started to sniff when two enormous doggos started to chase me! Mommy could see they wanted to play but she was so afraid they wanted to play ‘with me’ rather than you know… with me. I cried and cried and mommy ran over to try and helps but I kept running aways. The worst part was the other owners did nothing for a while (too long in both mommy and my opinions).
When both doggies was under control mommy put me on leash and led me to the exit. As we were leaving I was watching those big pups. I wasn’t turning my back on them for a second! Then it happened.
He licked my butt.
Another big doggo had come in the exit and while I was watching the other two he came up and licked my butt!! I jumped in the air, I was so startled!
Needless to say, dis was a serious memory forged in my formative puppy years and I still don’t care for puppers sniffing my butt too much. I’s more of a people dog.
But we is all trying to be braver because we knows that this is good for me. I needs to sniffs and runs and play ball and a hotel room isn’t always the best spot for it. I is also older and wiser now and I gots teefs. So I show other puppers how I feels abouts their encroachment in my space. It embarasses my mom and dad sometimes when it’s clear to them another dog just wants to play, but a small pups got to do what a small pups got to do.
One such dog park with very nice puppers was the Hampton Park Dog Run in Charleston, SC.
There was lots of room to run, shade and a water spot if you don’t have staff to carry your water like I do. There were benches for my pawrents too. I also enjoy pretending to be a peoples and sit on the benches with them. One thing it was missing was a designated small dog area. Which, as a small dog, I really pupreciate.
Here are some of the fur-friends I made.
And then… There’s Hank. He was there with his Grandpa. Mommy thought Hank reminded her (sweetly) of a wombat she met in Australia. He was fast and all muscle plus sweet. Well she thought he was sweet. Me, not so much and you will see whys!
First, he stoled my ball. It was COVERED in his droooool. Ugh. I pawed at it gently in the dirt but it wasn’t salvageable at the pawk, it had to be washed at home. Then he stoled my waters! You see the picture below!? That’s his waters right theres!!! Thief!
But, he was very cutes in a young 10 month old puppers kind of way. He just needs older and wiser pups like myself to show him the ropes.
Overall, the Hampton Park Dog Run is a very nice place to play with or without your fur-friends.
I gives it 3 paws easily which is still pawsome. It just needed a separate small dog area to bring it to full pawfection.
